5 Method of appointment : Direct Recruitment.
Note:- 1.Ex-Service men will be given preference as per provisions contained in
GO(MS)50/70 dated 12.02.70
2.Women and PH candidates are not eligible to apply for the post.
6 Age limit : 19-36. Only candidates born between 02/01/1976 and 01/01//1993
(both dates included) are eligible to apply for this post with usual
relaxation to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other
Backward Communities. (For other conditions regarding the age
relaxation please see para 2 of the General Conditions).
Maximum age limit in the case of Excise Guards in Service shall be 41 years. They
should produce the Service Certificate obtained from the Head of the Department when
the same is called for.

7 Qualifications : - 1. SSLC or its equivalent
2.Physical Measurement:- Must have atleast 165 cm height and 81 cm round the chest
with a minimum expansion of 5cm. For candidates belonging to SC/ST a height of 160cm will
be sufficient. Minimum chest expansion of 5cm shall however be applicable for them also.
3.Eye Sight:- Must be certified to possess the following eyesight without glasses.

Note:- Each eye must have a full field of vision. Colour blindness, squint or any morbid

4.Physical Efficiency:-
In addition to the above qualifications candidates must qualify in any 5 events
out of the 8 specified below of the National Physical Efficiency One Star
standard Test conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission.

Note :- i)The physical measurement of candidates will however be taken at the the time

Candidates who sustain any injuries or accidents while participating in the physical
efficiency test will not be given another chance to participate in the physical efficiency
test.
ii)The candidates who come out successful in the Physical Efficiency Test should
produce a Medical certificate in original obtained from a Medical Officer not below
the rank of a Civil Surgeon Grade II in the form prescribed hereunder certifying their
physical fitness and capacity for active outdoor work and certifying their visual standards
without glasses.

Note:- Details regarding standard of vision should be clearly stated in the certificate, as given
above, in Para 7(3) Vague statement such as vision “Normal” “Average” etc. will not
be accepted. Specification for each eye should be stated separately. If the
specifications are not as indicated above, the Officers issuing the certificate should
certify whether the candidate has got better standards of vision or worse standards of
vision, as the case may be . Otherwise the Certificate will not be accepted.
8. (1) Training:- Every person appointed as Excise Preventive Officer shall undergo a
training as may be prescribed by the Commissioner of Excise for a period of not less
than three months.
(2) Bond:- Every persons deputed for training shall execute a bond agreeing to
complete the course of training and to serve the Government after training for such
minimum period as may be specified by the Commissioner of Excise failing which
shall be liable to refund the cost of training together with liquidated damages.
(3) Test :- Every person appointed as Excise Preventive Officer shall within the prescribed
period of probation, pass the Excise Test Part A&B if he has not already passed the
same.
